Restaurateurs Blend Mixes Serious Taste and Value - Monterey County Weekly, Mar2012
"Firok Shield's three superb bistros - da Giovanni, Bistro Beaujolais and Bistro Giovanni - all lie within three Carmel-by-the-Sea blocks and all have distinct features, but they complement each other very well.
The same can be said of the varietals in Shield's new 2010 Mélange a Troís - a well-balanced and intriguing blend that teams 70 percent Syrah with 15 percent each Temperanillo and Zinfandel. The resulting showcases each vines distinct character, while melding them into a surprisingly melodic mixture.
"Stunning smoothness and lightness for a Syrah-dominated, Zin-blend, is a testament to the mellowing powers of the Spanish Temperanillo grape. Despite the delicate first impression, however, the wine holds its own against potent Italian with kalamata olives. Little tannins means it's not too fruity, but in this case, it's nicer - especially with, say, Bistro Boujelais' outdoor patio."

From Joshua & Lilia, September 2011: My husband and I have been dining at your wonderful restaurant since it was recommended to us by the manager at the Inn we stayed at in 2001 to celebrate our first year wedding anniversary. Since then we have been coming back to celebrate our wedding anniversaries and my birthdays. It's been four years since we last dine at this fine restaurant. My husband, Joshua, still to this day, remembers the chicken w/ artichokes he had for dinner that first time. The ambiance is so warm and friendly from owner, Firok and his daughters, to the chefs and the waiter. I tasted the best mushroom soup I ever had and did not realized I was licking the spoon until Joshua told me and I have never done that before in my life. Last Saturday, 9/17, we celebrated my birthday. Our reservation was for 7:30 pm, but we ran into traffic so I called to say we will be arriving at 8 instead. My husband once again, loved his dish, the Involtini Di Pollo, I took a bite and it was so delicious, I was seriously thinking of ordering it to go. We also had the jumbo prawns and it was equally delicious. My compliments to the chef. I want to thank our waiter (who recognized us and greeted us warmly) and the two effervescent ladies that made my birthday so special. P.S. For dessert, I ordered the Tiramisu with chocolate to go. Uuum...Ummmm, DELICIOSO. WE WILL BE BACK NEXT YEAR FOR JOSHUA'S BIRTHDAY.
